ABOUT THE SCIATA® SEATING SYSTEM

April 4, 2005 I was commuting to the airport on the freeway in order to catch a flight for an important out of town meeting.  Traffic was heavy on the highway at that particular time of the morning, and I was moving with traffic when I became involved in a multiple rollover car wreck This was the genesis of a life of pain definitively altering for me what had been an athletic life.

Mark’s herniated disc back pain and sciatic nerve pain proved unrelenting.  Unable to sit or stand for extended periods of time, he spent much of his time sprawled out on the floor at work and on the bed at home.  Thus, he was unable to sit with his family and dine or sit at the conference table during meetings.  An equally troubling issue at work was that of travel.

Airline flights were pain filled episodes which I thought would never end.  Airline flight attendants were not strangers to dealing with the guy in seat 3A who was laying as far back as he could and grimacing from the pain.

As chance would have it, it was during a family trip that Mark dreamed up the Sciata® Seating System.  Frustrated with wheelchairs and ineffective cushions, Mark sketched the first inkling of his early inspiration on a napkin at a family restaurant.

I wanted even support for my pelvis while allowing for a release of pressure from the injured nerve.  This I accomplished through the offset support put together with the tailbone [coccyx] in mind.  Too many times I had sat in a wheelchair, office chair, or restaurant seat with supplemental cushioning that compressed and allowed my tailbone area to hurt after a while.  With Sciata ® Seating System, I no longer experienced the pressure on the tailbone that would produce pain, and I am a 250 pound fellow.

Mark’s condition is not cured but he feels markedly better.  His patent pending seating system lets him sit more comfortably while at the dinner table, the conference table, and behind the wheel.  He has also regained his dignity due to the inconspicuous nature of the Sciata® Seating System.  Small enough to fit in most any briefcase or perhaps a large purse, the seating system is a welcome companion weighing little more than 5 ounces.

I have personally used the Sciata® Seating System for more than a year of product trials and have found a design that works for me.  This is why I wanted to make this patented seating system available to others who suffer similarly to me.
